Caught In The Fishnet

I can never get enough lace into my wardrobe. It's pretty much been a staple texture since I was 13. I've lace in so many forms I can barely keep count.

However, I secured some rather interesting lace by Obesity+Speed, via I Don't Like Monday's. It comes in the form of a long sleeved babydoll dress but, more interestingly, the lace itself it actually a kind of fishnet, which makes a bit different to the usual offerings. Needless to say, this appeals to my inner goth on many levels!

Strangely though, there is something quite demure about the dress. Perhaps it's the long sleeves or the cut, but it feels quite modest. I wore it to work last week teamed with my current favourite thing - sheer spotty tights. I want to wear spotty tights with everything at the moment.

The dress however, works over jeans too as it's see-through quality really makes it more of tunic, but with a black skirt underneath, it can also be worn as a dress. It also has pockets, which is always an added bonus.

I also dug out these River island shoes. These were previously very uncomfortable as they are pretty high, however, after traipsing around with the 6" Burberry heels regularly, these suddenly feel really easy to wear.

Halloween Photo Effect: The Evil Eye

This tutorial will show you how to use the Lens Flare filter to create sinister B-movie glowing eyes (AKA the Evil Eye) effect in Photoshop.

[Step: 1] First, I’m going to darken the image using the gradient map. So, Open your image (ctrl +o), go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map and change the gradient to black to white.

[Step: 2] Now change the layer mode of your ‘Gradient Map 1′ layer to ‘Multiply’

[Step: 3] You can duplicate your ‘Gradient Map 1′ to make the image even darker.

[Step: 4] Duplicate your background layer, and place it on top of the stack of layers

[Step: 5] Now select you ‘Background copy’ layer, go to Filter > Render > Lens Flare. Choose the 105mm prime option, set the Brightness to 100 and position the flare over the subject’s pupil.

[Step: 6] Repeat the Step 5 one more time to add a flare effect to the other eye

[Step: 7] Add layer mask to your ‘Background Copy’ layer, set your foreground color to black

[Step: 8] Click on your layer mask, choose a brush tool, set the brush size, play with the opacity, and start painting on the image to reveal the darkened image we did earlier.

TDP reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“Even though the Rebel XS is clearly an entry-level DSLR body, most point and shoot users will be very impressed with the image quality and performance the XS upgrade will bring them. The affordable price point of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / 1000D will give it a lot of popularity. “

DevHardware reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“The XS’s performance is every bit as good as you would expect from a Canon DSLR…the overall feature set and performance of the XS are impressive, and it would seem as though Canon have hit upon another low-end DSLR likely to appeal to a mass audience.”

LaptopMag reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“If ever a camera could overtake the D40 in the budget DSLR category, it’s the Canon EOS Rebel XS. It offers fast speeds, an easier interface, higher resolution, an automatic sensor-cleaning system, and often-comparable (and always good) image quality. “

PCWorld reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“If you’re a more seasoned photographer, you might want to shell out an extra $100 for the XSi… overall, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS is a great entry-level digital SLR, delivering a handful of advanced features and excellent image quality for a reasonable price.”

ImagingResource reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“The Canon Rebel XS is a very good camera for the money, especially with a good-quality image-stabilized lens. If you’ll never enlarge above 8×10 or want to shoot low-light and indoor images that you’ll enlarge to 11×14, the Canon Rebel XS is a very good choice at a very low price, and a Dave’s Picks among bargain digital SLRs.”

DCRP reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“Photo quality was superb. The Rebel typically took well-exposed photos, with pleasing, accurate colors. A few photos could’ve been a little brighter, and I noticed a little highlight clipping, but both were minor issues.”

ThinkCamera reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“EOS 1000D produces exceptionally low-noise images throughout the ISO range for an entry level model. It’s a bit of a shame to not see Canon really push the boat out and try to extend the range – the Nikon D60 pushes to ISO3200 compared to the Canon EOS 1000D at ISO1600..”

CNET.UK reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“The Canon EOS 1000D is a safe bet for anyone buying their first digital SLR, and it has enough features to satisfy those who want to get more heavily into photography.”

DCI reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“Likes: Good low light and dynamic range score, Access to a wide range of lenses, Live View and strong automatic mode make it friendly for new users, Decent results for an entry-level SLR. Dislikes: Plastic rather than rubber grips, Average color and resolution scores, Barely less expensive than the XSi, No spot metering”

CNET.AU reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“the 1000D outperforms all but the Nikon D60 for shooting speed. It goes from power-to-photo in a bit less than 0.2 second. At 0.4 second in good conditions, the 1000D’s JPEG-shooting lag matches the rest; its 0.8 second duration in dim conditions is quite good for any class — just a bit slower than the D60 and inexplicably far better than the 450D“

ComputerActive reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“Good points: Solid build despite lightweight plastic construction; relatively easy to use, and is responsive and reliable; good quality kit lens and good results
Bad points: Over-priced compared to closest rivals; activating Live View requires detective work; light sensitivity settings offered could be higher still
Overall: Everything you’d want from a beginner SLR is here – except a truly budget price”
Rating:

PCAuthority reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“So what you have in the 1000D is an exceptionally good value DSLR that has no real weakness. Despite stiff competition from the likes of the Nikon D60 and Olympus E-420, it puts Canon right back at the top of the budget pile..”

CameraLabs reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“The 1000D / XS. It’s a decent performer and sports all the features most new buyers will look for. The only real problem is its launch price, which at the time of writing in mid-2008 was higher than most rivals, and too close to the 450D / XSi for anyone to seriously consider it.

CNET reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“The good: Excellent photo quality for its class; solid performance. The bad: Maximum ISO of 1600; no spot meter; annoying, in-viewfinder, focus-point display.The bottom line: The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a good entry-level dSLR, but only its photo quality stands out among the competition.”

TrustedReviews reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“it does have some good qualities, including decent performance and excellent image quality, it doesn’t really stand out against competing entry-level cameras from other brands. Its limited feature-set, slightly disappointing build quality and overall feeling of cheapness do it no favours,”

PhotographyBlog reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
” Image quality is on a par with the EOS 450D, with noise-free images up to ISO 800 and a very usable fastest speed of 1600.. It’s well suited to both beginners upgrading from a compact digicam and more experienced DSLR-owners looking for an inexpensive back-up body..”

Outback reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“ISO 100-200 very smooth with hardly any noise. ISO 400 is nearly as good as the ISO 200 shot. ISO 800 shows a bit more noise but still very good. Even ISO 1600 is what we got in the past at ISO 800.”

DigitalPicture reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
” I’m very pleased (actually somewhat surprised) with the improvements delivered by the Canon EOS Rebel XSi / 450D. It will be a worthwhile upgrade for many XTi / 400D owners – it is a lot of camera for the money for anyone purchasing it.”

PhotoReview reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
“Flash output was well-balanced and exposures were even throughout the camera’s ISO range. Barrel distortion was quite obvious at the 18mm focal length but negligible by 35mm…Vignetting was only just apparent at 18mm and flare was generally well controlled.”

GoodGearGuide reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
” The 1000D can capture some impressively crisp photos. Our shots didn’t quite rival those captured with higher-resolution sensors on other Canon units or some Nikon models, but they were certainly at the top of the pack in comparison to other 10Mp models..”

ePhotozine reviews the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS and writes;
” In fact, noise isn’t showing until ISO800 which is a great result. ISO1600 has a few artefacts showing here and there, but it’s still a great performance. For an entry model, it’s also very expensive…I’ve marked the Overall score down for this very reason.”
